Science at the Getty Conservation Institute:

The main research goals of GCI Science are to enhance conservation science and technical art history, and to develop and disseminate appropriate and sustainable solutions to conservation problems. To facilitate these objectives, GCI Science is focused on seven thematic areas, including collections research, preventive conservation, modern and contemporary art, photograph conservation, building materials, new analytical technologies and protocols, and development of a reference collection.


AATA Online: July 2009

AATA Online is a free online database containing over 110,000 abstracts of literature published from 1932 to the present covering the conservation and management of material cultural heritage, including works of art, cultural objects, architectural heritage, archaeological sites and materials, and ethical and legal issues. Approximately 1,000 new abstracts of journal articles, conference proceedings, books, theses, audiovisual works, and technical reports are added each quarter.


Conserving Heritage in Southeast Asian Cities: Planning for Continuity and Change Workshop

This workshop—targeted at young heritage professionals from Lao PDR, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar—will be held in Chiang Saen, Thailand, October 31-November 14, 2009. It is the second in a series of field training workshops that are part of the GCI's Southeast Asia Built Heritage Initiative. Application deadline is August 15.



GCI Conservation Guest Scholar Program

Applications for the 2010-11 Conservation Guest Scholar Program at the Getty Conservation Institute are now being accepted. The program is for established conservators, scientists, and professionals who have attained distinction in conservation and allied fields.



Getty Graduate Interns

Graduate internships—offered in the four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust, including the Getty Conservation Institute—are open to students of all nationalities who intend to pursue careers in fields related to the visual arts. Online applications for 2010-11 will be available in September 2009.
